Change the climate... organizationally... individually... to a positive psychology for resilience, wellness, and engagement!
Recent studies on improving emotional intelligence show:
Emotional wellness impacts costs to the individual and the organization:

  • Top 15 drivers of lost work time have an emotional component.
  • Most major diseases have a 22-40% co-morbidity with emotional illness.
  • Presence of emotional distress increases medical costs by 100-183%.
  • Emotional distress is undiagnosed 85% of the time across ten major medical conditions.

Emotional intelligence improves results:

  • After supervisors in a manufacturing plant received training in emotional competencies such as how to listen better and help employees resolve problems on their own, lost-time accidents were reduced by 50 percent, formal grievances were reduced from an average of 15 per year to 3 per year, and the plant exceeded productivity goals by $250,000.
  • At American Express approximately 90% of financial advisors trained in emotional intelligence skills achieved significant improvements in sales performance.
  • Sales in American Express's Financial Services Division increased by 18%. Regions with emotional intelligence programs showed 11% sales increase over other regions.
  • MetLife insurance sales agents who were weak in emotional competencies such as optimism, self-confidence, initiative, and empathy sold policies with an average premium of $54,000. Those strong in at least 5 of 8 key emotional competencies sold policies worth $114,000.
